Where is the UK entertainment industry — the artists, actors, broadcasters, comedians, cultural leaders — at this dangerous moment where community and cohesion is being challenged and civil unrest is growing?

A small number of figures have stepped forward. The TOGETHER alliance, backed by names like Sir Lenny Henry, Paloma Faith, Maxine Peake, Fontaine's D.C., and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, has publicly condemned the rise of far-right extremism and called for unity.

At the Brit Awards, artists including CMAT, Wolf Alice, Wet Leg and Loyle Carner warned that “you don’t make art in a fascist state” and urged musicians to speak politically. But these voices — brave as they are — highlight the problem more than they solve it.

Television leaders themselves have been criticised for years of harmful portrayals that have contributed to the dehumanisation fuelling recent far-right riots. Music journalists note that while anti-racist cultural events are growing, they remain dwarfed by the scale of far-right mobilisation.

This is not the 1970s, when Rock Against Racism mobilised an entire generation. Today’s entertainment landscape is richer, louder, more connected — yet somehow quieter on the bigger issues.

GB2GB calls attention to this gap because the entertainment culture shapes public mood as powerfully as news. When artists speak, people listen. When they stay silent, the far-right fills the space.

This moment demands more than scattered statements. It demands a visible, united cultural front — one that refuses to normalise hate, refuses to look away, and refuses to leave the public alone with the loudest voices of division.

The question is not “Where is the entertainment industry?" It is: “How long can it afford to stay silent?”
