The BBC’s Radio 4 Verify segment stated that immigration spending is just 50p per £100 of UK costs.
GB2GB's Founder has issued yet another formal complaint to the BBC following a BBC Radio 4's 'Verify' news bulletin in which the BBC stated that spending amounts to around just 50p in every £100 of government expenditure.

BriefingWire.com, 11/20/2025 - While this figure is accepted as being accurate, the BBC failed to provide any meaningful context — particularly the fact that immigration spending represents just 0.5% of the UK budget. Despite this tiny proportion, immigration receives disproportionate and often sensationalised coverage across BBC output.

By presenting the “50p” statistic without context, the segment risked reinforcing the false impression that immigration is a major fiscal burden on the UK.

GB2GB argues that this constitutes a breach of BBC Editorial Guidelines, specifically those relating to due weight, misleading impressions, and contextual accuracy.

The complaint does not challenge the mathematics, but the framing: the BBC continues to treat immigration as though it represents tens of pounds in every £100 spent, rather than pennies.

GB2GB is calling once again on the BBC to rebalance its coverage and present immigration in a manner proportionate to its actual fiscal footprint.

By not including the 50p element, it could be reasonably assumed that the furore created by political opponents of immigration is actually supported by the BBC - directly or mistakenly.

Having recently made what the BBC classed as a 'mistake' on the production of a false narrative concerning the ongoing Trump issue that may possibly lead to the BBC being sued by Trump - currently being subject to our existing complaint that it was not a mistake but that it had intent - this new complaint raised by the Founder of GB2GB may well provide more evidence of the lack of propriety in their actions.

If you are in agreement with the apparent self-harming actions by the BBC being further damaging to the cohesion of society in the U.K. then please share that concern directly with the BBC through their own BBC Complaints Process Click Here.

For the part of GB2GB, any negative conclusion to our complaint from the BBC will be followed by a request the BBC to escalate this process to a higher level, a well as GB2GB escalating the complaint directly to OFCOM to decide if the evidence presented is in fact sound - or not?
