Australian satellite specialist NewSat Ltd attended the AfricaCom Summit 2012 which was held in Cape Town, South Africa from November 14 to 15. The two day event saw thousands of delegates from the media, ICT, and telecommunications sector converge to discuss the emerging technologies and services in the region, in particular the rise of smart communities and growing need to build reliable and flexible intelligent infrastructure. The AfricaCom summit also focused its attention on “convergence”, tackling how IP providers, GSM operators, mobile and satellite companies are now collaborating in their efforts to a broader-based show that reevaluates each sector’s role and strategies. Local and international organizations participated in the event which offered a unique platform for networking and business opportunities.
NewSat was joined at AfricaCom by other leading satellite companies including regional powerhouses in Yahsat and Gilat, together with major operators like ViaSat, Comtech, Hughes, and Newtec. The Australian satellite company joined the said organizations to present the potentials of Ka band satellite capacity to the industry. In particular, NewSat’s Jabiru Satellite Program was the focus of the Australian satellite company. Jabiru 1 and Jabiru 3 are already scheduled for their respective launches and will deliver new capacity to Africa, the Middle East, and Asia for services such as VoIP, internet on satellite, and satellite backhaul.
