Australian independent satellite communications company, NewSat Ltd (ASX: NWT), announced today the appointment of William Abbott as a Non-Executive Director of the company. Mr. Abbott has served as acting Corporate Counsel to NewSat for two years, and has 30 years of law experience in the corporate field. He will continue serving as a consultant to HWL Ebsworth alongside his new duties as part of NewSat’s Board of Directors.Mr. Abbott was chosen for his wealth of experience, especially in international business transactions and dealing with foreign jurisdictions. Before he was appointed Corporate Counsel to the company back in 2012, he served NewSat as an external lawyer. His extensive knowledge of the Company’s affairs, as well as the global satellite industry, makes him a natural choice as a non-executive director of Australia’s leading satellite specialist. Part of his accomplishments with NewSat include acting for the Company in the acquisition of the Perth and Adelaide teleport facilities back in 2005. More recently, Mr. Abbott was behind the acquisition of eight orbital slots for NewSat. He has been closely involved in the Company’s latest endeavor, the Jabiru Satellite Program, from commercial negotiations to funding agreements.
Mr. Abbott’s appointment as Non-Executive Director was effective starting October 24, of 2012.
