Music Bugs have joined Child.org’s Team Mum campaign which aims to empower new mums in rural Kenya where pregnancy and birth are unacceptably dangerous. The Team Mum campaign, which is being supported by the UK government through UK Aid Match, is on a mission to launch pregnancy support groups in Meru, Kenya, where one in 26 babies die before they reach their first birthday. The new pregnancy support groups will provide 5,700 new mums with vital health information and medical support, making women's pregnancies happier and safer and in turn, saving the lives of thousands of mums and babies.
As a Team Mum supporter, Music Bugs are organising several fundraising campaigns via themed sessions and raffles. Claire Bennett, founder of Music Bugs said “We are absolutely delighted to be involved with Child.org’s Team Mum initiative. Their pioneering work providing pregnancy support groups to expectant mothers in Kenya is vital and it is a privilege to support the very important work being undertaken in the region”.
Thanks to the support of partners including Music Bugs, the UK Government will also be supporting Child.org’s Team Mum appeal. Through UK Aid Match, every donation made between 1 Feb - 30 April 2019 will be doubled by the UK Government.
International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt said:
“Expectant mothers across the UK are supported throughout their pregnancy by the hard work and care of our fantastic NHS. Sadly, this is not the same for many women in Kenya who still do not have access to the care they need to make sure that their babies grow.
“The Team Mum campaign, with the support of UK Aid Match, is bringing together parents and experts from across Britain to support communities and empower pregnant women in rural Kenya.
