In February 2014, the new Chianti Classico pyramid with the new top tier of Gran Selezione was launched with a presentation in grand style in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio. The pyramid is divided into three tiers in the Chianti Classico denomination, namely Annata, Riserva, and Gran Selezione. Because of their different aging processes and selection of grapes, the Gran Selezione reflects 10% of the total production of Chianti Classico wines and adds quality to the general Chianti Classico production.

The new three-tier system of the Chianti Classico consortium was brought about to enhance the overall quality and provide a top tier of the highest quality, namely Gran Selezione. Ideal for enjoying with red meats, game and strong cheeses, the Gran Selezione has been hailed for its excellence..

“We didn’t originally plan to make this the most popular wine for Christmas gift seekers, but we didn’t want deny our customers a good wine,” a representative from Montemaggio stated. “This red Tuscan wine is produced during our best harvests. The selection is done from the best Sangiovese grapes that we have, and those grapes come from the highest location in the oldest vineyards at Montemaggio. You see, even from the start, we take complete care to present only the best of our ingredients to all wine lovers.”

The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione di Montemaggio offers an intense bouquet of mineral and spice, with undertones of wild, leathery notes that are usually enriched with a pinch of red fruit to give it that hedonistic taste. If presented right, this wine presents a deep color which changes to a pomegranate shade over time.

“The best way to serve this wine is by keeping it at 17° C – 18° C, which is perfect for the cold winter months when this wine will be presented to wine lovers everywhere. We only hope that our customers cherish these flavors and that our wines help them celebrate their Christmas with happiness and ease,” the representative continued.

As with any Montemaggio wine, this wine has also been awarded because of its flavor notes. Presented by an Italian guide Veronelli, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione di Montemaggio was awarded 91 points for its excellence and quality.

“With time, we only hope that we are able to produce even more wines so our customers can depend on us for the ultimate wine experience,” the representative added.

Along with different kinds of wine such as their Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, Torre di Montemaggio, Quinta Essentia, Rose di Montemaggio and the Chardonnay di Montemaggio, the vineyards also offer quality organic extra virgin olive oil and grappa.
