Bobby Cassidy Jr.- KID SHAMROCK receives world premier at the Atlantic Theatre Company
New York recently retired Irish boxer John Duddy makes his US acting stage debut and Seamus McDonagh former New York Golden Gloves champion star in the highly anticipated Kid Shamrock with seven performances only at the Atlantic Theatre Company Stage 2.

Kid Shamrock begins performances on Tuesday February 8th and runs through February 13th. Press Opening is Tuesday, February 8th at 8:00 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday- Sunday at 8:00pm; Performances are at Atlantic Theatre Company at 330 West 16th street, – between 8th & 9th avenue. Recreating the fight between Bobby Cassidy, Kid Shamrock and Rodrigo Valdez at Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick’s Day in 1971, a fight that ultimately led to Bobby’s retirement from boxing and enlightenment as a human being. The play is a homage to the vibrant blue-collar tradition of Irish American boxing.
With John Duddy, playing young Kid Shamrock and Seamus McDonagh playing older Kid Shamrock, playwright Bobby Cassidy Jr. son of the fighter, examines the power of love, commitment and memory in this gut wrenching passionate play.
The cast for KID SHAMROCK is made up entirely of former pro-boxers including John Duddy, recently retired middle weight contender who begins his foray into acting. Seamus McDonagh former New York Golden Gloves champion, former glove winner and actor Patrick Joseph Connolly and Gary Francis Hope an English cruiser weight champion and a former Golden Gloves winner. Legendary referee with over fifty world title bouts, Wayne Kelly appears as the referee.
Bobby Cassidy Jr. (playwright) writes boxing for ThesweetScience.com and Newsday. His coverage of the sport also appeared in the New York Post, Los Angeles Times, The Ring, KO and Boxing Digest. In 2000, he was co-winner (with George Kimball) of the Boxing Writers Association of America award for best column. In 2001, the BWAA awarded him first place for best investigative-enterprise story.
Irish Bobby Cassidy – A veteran of 79 pro fights and a top-10 contender in the junior middleweight, middleweight and light heavyweight divisions. He fought in both the current and old Madison Square Garden. He also trained two world champions – Lonnie Bradley and Donny Lalonde. He has appeared in four films, including the original Rocky, which won an Oscar for best picture in 1976.
Jimmy Smallhorne (director) is the founder of the Irish Bronx Theatre. He directed a feature film entitled 2by4, the first Irish film to tackle sexual abuse, was a Sundance winner for cinematography. For the stage he has directed Away Alone, Once a Catholic, The Risen People and King Lear. He currently has a number of films in development for his feature film Pushers Needed and To Put it Blunt.
