Houston, Texas - The Veterans Chamber of Commerce exists to champion veteran-owned businesses and help service members and their families succeed as entrepreneurs. Its mission centers on creating access to customers, contracts and community recognition for veteran-owned companies. Corporate sponsorships are essential to that effort, converting patriotic support into measurable economic outcomes. That impact was on full display at Wings Over Houston 2024, where Walmart’s sponsorship elevated the Veterans Business Marketplace into one of the event’s most visible and effective activations. The results demonstrated how corporate partnerships can translate into real business growth for veteran entrepreneurs.
Wings Over Houston 2024 recorded its highest ticket sales and attendance to date. An estimated 900 to 1,000 visitors moved directly through the Veterans Business Marketplace, with overall exposure to nearly 10,000 attendees during the event.
The economic outcomes were immediate and significant. A veteran-owned woodworking business traveled more than 1,200 miles one way and generated $12,000 in gross sales over two days. A military-owned service provider secured a two-year contract for airfield security as a direct result of event connections. Several small-box vendors reported thousands of dollars in point-of-sale transactions while also capturing customer data for future marketing.
Vendors credited the Chamber’s plug-and-play social media campaign with increasing traffic and visibility before and during the event, extending brand reach beyond the air show weekend. In the months following Wings Over Houston, participating vendors reported an estimated $82,000 in additional business directly tied to Marketplace connections.
The event also supported fundraising and long-term awareness. The Chamber’s retail table generated $1,873 in direct donations through merchandise sales. Additionally, 6,000 copies of the Houston Regional Veterans Business Buyers Guide were distributed, extending sponsor visibility and connecting consumers with veteran-owned businesses year-round.
As presenting sponsor, Walmart played a central role in shaping the experience. The company hosted a VIP refreshment tent adjacent to the Marketplace, offering boxed lunches, cold drinks and private facilities for veteran vendors. Prominent banner placement and logo visibility, including a 35-foot inflatable finish-line display featuring U.S. and service flags, ensured brand recognition throughout the venue. The flag display became a natural meeting point for thousands of attendees.
The Chamber measures success not only in attendance or sales, but in new contracts signed, sustainable business growth and long-term brand alignment for sponsors. Corporate sponsorships provide the infrastructure that makes these outcomes possible.
The Veterans Business Marketplace has proven to be a scalable model. With continued corporate partnership, the Chamber plans to expand vendor participation, grow statewide marketing efforts and develop new high-visibility activations.
The mission is clear, the results are proven, and the opportunity to invest in veteran entrepreneurship is now. Please visit: www.HRVCC.org
