Ever since The Conservative Party commissioned the Leveson Judicial Investigation into press behaviour in 2011 and concluded in 2012, the path of right wing domination of the media in the United Kingdom began. The government welcomed parts of the report but ultimately did not implement the core regulatory recommendations, leaving the UK without the reforms Leveson proposed.The ignored recommendations were exactly the ones needed to prevent what we see today.
This was worsened when the same government, under another Conservative PM, formally scrapped it in 2018, with the justification that the industry had “changed enough” and further investigation was unnecessary.
The final injustice to the necessity of governments control over imbalanced reporting of political news was crushed in 2023 when the 3rd Conservative PM completely ignored a wide range of impartial bodies and academics repeating that threat - which was not even raised in parliament.
The conclusion of these politically motivated actions by a right wing government is that since that original 2011 inquiry, 3 individual right wing leaning media groups have been brainwashing the British public for 15 years with their 90% domination of printed and digital news, compounded by compliant TV news channel repeatedly re-cycling that bias in all TV news channels.
With media ownership concentrated in the hands of 3 wealthy individuals in mind, it is in the hands of ordinary citizens to rebalance the system, and GB2GB are suggesting a way for that to happen.
Do you really believe that is fair?
With a symbolic £1 per donor contribution.to GB2GB's constant challenges to that very same British media, we can use those funds to engage initially with the public - but without the benefit of media itself as 'Turkey's never vote for Christmas' - they are clearly not what Billionaire owned media want to happen!
The campaign frames fairness as a core British value and invites the public to choose:
£1 for fairness for the interests of the people - or £0 for bias, they already get paid by the Billionaires? .
The question therefore remains with what the 'public' want to do:
Realistically, any citizen supporting it will not want things to change so they will do nothing - what will you do?
