While the BBC is now under pressure over political influence on its board, a leaked memo, questions around editorial bias and multiple senior resignations, GB2GB had already:• Filed a detailed complaint to the BBC
• Challenged the BBC’s inadequate response to our complaint, requesting an escalation to our subsequent challenge
• Escalated the issue to Ofcom for reviews of the BBC's dual responses to our detailed as-yet unanswered complaints
• All whilst the BBC are still reviewing other GB2GB detailed complaints of other examples of bias detected from various members of their reporting team over the course of many weeks
This means GB2GB raised the same concerns about governance and impartiality before any national newspaper, parliamentary committee, or internal BBC sources made them public.
A GB2GB spokesperson said:
“We raised the alarm before anyone else because the public deserves a media that serves people of the UK, not those opinions with diverse and divisive political and outside financial interests. The BBC crisis now confirms exactly why GB2GB exists — to identify systemic failures, act quickly, and hold institutions accountable without fear or favour.”
With this particular complaint, GB2GB is calling for:
• Transparency over board influence
• Mandatory disclosure of political affiliations
• Independent oversight of BBC complaints
• Protection of editorial staff from political pressure
Members of the public must not be exposed to such bias and deliberate distortion of the truth - as shown in the Trump affair by the BBC - and must categorically apologise to those very same members of the public for doing so.
If the Royal Charter that defines the purpose of the BBC is to be kept to the highest level of impartiality at all times in accordance with the terms of the Charter, then GB2GB and other defendants of democracy must be heard by those in British media who allude to abide by those principles - as well as those selected to defend those principles must ensure they do so too.
