The UK is home to approximately 2.6 million Millionaires and Billionaires who are individuals with significant wealth, visibility, or cultural influence in the UK. Many of these are the exceptionable people who earn their 'wealth' from hard work and skills most people could never achieve. GB2GB notes that if even a tiny fraction of this group chose to stand publicly with the public on the issue of simple *fair balanced media*, the impact would be stunningly substantial.
We have launched a £1 people-powered campaign asking for something so basic it shouldn’t even need a campaign for - Fair and balanced media that produces more news - and less views resulting in less noise too.
It feels like there is a heavy pressure in the air that has been made dramatically worse with the 'doom and gloom' imposed on the public relentlessly by the media. Since the advent of 24/7 news reporting - where more 'new' news is rarely created than there was before, therefore public are force-fed the same news stories regurgitated over and over again as if being brainwashed.
The truth is, 20% of whatever content there is in a newspaper or on a tv news channel is actual news, so the 80% balance can only ever be views and opinions. Journalism is the easiest way to produce more endless 'product' than any other industry - because they only have to enlarge the story by having even more 'experts' or 'colleagues' giving the public yet another viewpoint on the subject.
Of that 2.6 million people many will be from the world of entertainment, sport, and many other fields which leads to large followings from their 'fans'. To their fans, these artists are trusted and respected, and more importantly listened to - *and now is the time for non-politicians to stand up and be counted*
It's a simple question - who wants a fair and balanced media - or perhaps we should ask 'who doesn't'
GB2GB are specifically calling on just a few of that 2.6 million to become 'One Of The Few' in our campaign for a fair and balanced media. The idea that less than 50% of that group would not be in favour of a fair balanced media is extremely unlikely, meaning over 1 million people from that group would, in principle, agree with that aim. All that remains is 'but do they care enough'
Bearing that in mind, just Imagine what the impact would be if even a minute fraction of that group chose to stand together with the people for more cohesion than we have now - how many could that be?
Now is the time to not look the other way - or is 5% of a 'comfortable' group too much to ask.
Which one are you?
5% — 130,000 people — would turn the world on its head in a day
3% — 78,000 people — would frighten the life of of the media industry
1% — 26,000 people — would represent a major cultural moment.
0.1% — 2,600 individuals — would still be a powerful collective voice.
0.01% — 260 people — could influence millions.
0.001% — 26 individuals — would still be impossible to ignore.
A GB2GB spokesperson said:
“This is a campaign for the people, funded by the people. It costs £1 for members of the public to join, and be part of the movement to improve the mood of the nation.
Out of 2.6 million influential individuals, it takes only a handful to stand with the public. The question is who and how many will choose to be *One Of The Few*
GB2GB will continue to encourage members of the public for a better, more cohesive society than we have today.
