One of the best ways of adding protein to your diet is by preparing salt and pepper chicken. This is a popular Chinese-inspired dish known for its golden and crispy chicken pieces seasoned with a bold blend of cracked pepper, salt, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
1.1/2 tsp onion powder
2.1/2 tsp garlic powder
3.1 1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-spice seasoning
4.1 tbsp soy sauce
5.500g boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced
6.2 tsp. coconut oil
7.1 pepper, thinly sliced
8.1 onion, thinly sliced
9.5 g garlic, minced
10.5 g ginger, minced
11.1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes (optional)
12.Spring onions for garnish
Method
1. Add chicken to a bowl with the garlic and onion powder and 1 tsp of Chinese 5-spice seasoning and soy sauce.
2. Heat the olive oil in typically a large frying pan over medium heat.
3. Once the frying pan is hot, add the seasoned chicken slices and 1 tsp of coconut oil. Cook for 6-7 minutes and remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.
4. In the same pan, add the tablespoon of coconut oil, onion, and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
5. Add the ginger, garlic, and the remaining ½ tsp Chinese 5-spice to the pan and cook for another 30 seconds to a minute.
6. Add the cooked chicken slices back to the pan with vegetables. Stir to combine.
7. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
8. Sprinkle the chopped spring onions over the top of the chicken before typically serving.
9. Serve.
