BriefingWire.com, 11/21/2025 - Market Overview

The Australia solar panel recycling market size was USD 3,546.00 Million in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 10,806.02 Million by 2033. The forecast period is from 2025 to 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.18%. Market growth is driven by increasing end-of-life photovoltaic panel waste, regulatory pressures including landfill bans, and adoption of circular economy initiatives alongside advancements in recycling technologies.

How AI is Reshaping the Future of Australia Solar Panel Recycling Market:

• AI technologies optimize the efficiency of material recovery, enhancing the recycling of silicon, glass, and metals from solar panels.

• Government grants, such as AUD 5 million awarded to UNSW for a solar panel recycling research hub, support AI-driven innovations.

• Companies like Sircel Pty Ltd utilize advanced AI systems in their solar panel recycling facilities to improve recycling rates beyond the current 15% nationwide.

• AI-driven data analytics assist in navigating evolving regulations and compliance requirements across states like Victoria and South Australia.

• AI-enabled automation facilitates the development of closed-loop recycling systems by coordinating industry partnerships.

• Predictive AI models improve forecasting of end-of-life panel volumes, enhancing infrastructure and supply chain management.

Australia Solar Panel Recycling Market Growth Factors

The growth in waste PV modules is one of the primary factors driving the Australia solar panel recycling market, with over 100 thousand tonnes of solar panel waste set to be produced annually. With this number estimated to be around 280 thousand tonnes this year, and 1.157 million tonnes in 2035, coupled with legislation such as Victoria's ban on solar panels in landfill, infrastructure for processing end-of-life solar panels is now also being developed in Australia. The first Queensland plant is capable of recycling 240,000 panels every year. Despite this plant, there are still approximately 800,000 solar panels in Queensland that risk being disposed of in landfill.

An increase in circular economy activities and inter-industry collaboration are important drivers as well. Solar manufacturers, waste management companies, and governments work together to set up standard closed-loop recycling systems that can recycle materials to use in future panels. The Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) has called for coordinated efforts such as infrastructure grants to provide a market incentive. As an example, in 2022 the Australian Government funded the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a AUD 5 million (approx USD 3.4 Million) grant to develop technologies to recycle 99 per cent of the materials in a PV panel and redesign the panel.
