Walk Continues After the Complete Hip Replacement at the Age Of 100
First time successfully operated in India at SaiShree Hospital for Special Surgery

BriefingWire.com, 2/18/2017 - In October this year, Smt. Chirputkar suffered a fracture on her hip bone after a fall at home. The fracture was treated with a surgery, inserting a rod and a screw. Unfortunately, the screw had changed position and lodged itself in her hip joint, causing her severe pain. She was finally admitted to SaiShree Hospital in Aundh, Pune and underwent a surgery last Saturday.

Chirputkar has no diseases like hypertension or diabetes and she is absolutely fit. She is a disciplined woman, taking care of her nutrition and taking proper medication. This is first time she has been hospitalized.

Adkar added while elaborating on her condition before the surgery, “Smt. Shalini Chirputkar had her first total hip replacement surgery in Mumbai; the screw had displaced and lodged itself in the hip joint. There were even broken parts of it remaining there, which were not obvious on the X-Ray. Not only this, the dislodged screw had caused a defect in the bone on the cup side of the joint. We had to conduct a bone graft and then fit the cup. The stem fitting in the cup had to be longer than normal since it had to cross down from the part of the bone where the screw was fitted, so that there were no weak sections in her femur bone.”

Dr Trupti Pare, anesthesiologist on the case, express that, “Smt. Chirputkar was not put on general anesthesia considering her age; the surgery was performed under regional anesthesia.”

Shalini Chirputkar said, “I am still young at heart and have a lot of energy. I have spent my life very well. Even after the surgery, I should be able to sit and move around soon, so I can do my own things.” Chirputkar had participated in the Mumbai Marathon for three consecutive years (2006-2008) until her family urged her to stop. She takes the feat lightly on her shoulders, saying, “I still don’t know how I did it, but I have always been regular with my walking. For the past 50 years, I have been going for morning walk daily. But after 80, I was advised by the doctors not to climb up. From then on, I started going up by bus and reduced walking.

She has expressed her gratitude towards the SaiShree Hospital team and wished she could resume her daily routine soon.
