NewSat and BAE systems has finally signed the two-year contract with the largest liquid natural gas development in Western Australia, the Wheatstone Project. The contract itself is worth $8.59 million, and will allow the Australian satellite communications company, alongside its partner BAE Systems, high-speed and reliable connectivity between the offshore platform and production facility in Onslow, and NewSat’s Perth based teleport.Offshore hardware and robust satellite communications is essential to the resource project in the Northern Region of Western Australia. NewSat’s products and services have been relied on by many remote, resource developments, including the deployment of VSAT in far-flung mining sites. The Wheatstone Project is expected to operate for 40 years, and effective satellite communications that can withstand the cyclones unique to the region is essential for operations, construction, administration, as well as the staff welfare of the project. Demand for enterprise grade satellite communications has increased alongside the economic mining boom in Australia.
NewSat recently announced an increase in their teleport revenues, posting a US$12.68 million worth of Teleport Contracts. Aside from the resource sector, the satellite company has secured business contracts with the enterprise sector in Papua New Guinea, and multiple contracts to provide mission critical communications to US Government personnel in the Middle East.
