Green City Growers Secures $100,000 in Funding via Community Investment Campaign
Boston-area urban farming company has raised one third of financing goal set in investment campaign launched last month.

BriefingWire.com, 9/22/2015 - Somerville, MA: Green City Growers (GCG) announced today the successful fundraising of $100,000 via their Community Investment Campaign. The campaign, also known as a direct public offering (DPO), offers local community members the opportunity to help grow Greater Boston’s urban agricultural movement. Unlike an initial public offering on a stock exchange, a DPO allows a business or non-profit organization to raise capital from a broad, non-accredited investor base.

“We are so thrilled to have successfully raised one third of our fundraising goal in such a short time,” says Jessie Banhazl, CEO and founder of Green City Growers. “The money that we have raised thus far will be invested in streamlining operations to further our reach throughout the northeast region. We are incredibly grateful to the local community for supporting our mission-driven company since our founding.”

Green City Growers set the standard for urban agriculture in the northeast by making innovative use of rooftops, vacant lots, parking garages, and other previously unutilized spaces to grow vegetables for clients including Whole Foods Market, b.good, and home to the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park. The company’s need for additional capital inspired GCG’s management team to find a similarly innovative method of fundraising.

GCG was inspired by local company Real Pickles’ success at raising half a million dollars through their community investment campaign in 2013 with legal guidance from Cutting Edge Capital.

GCG hopes to raise a total of $300,000 in debt through this community investment campaign before the end of 2015. Visit greencitygrowers.com/invest for more information.
