An SUV, or sport-utility vehicle, has an elevated ride height and allows you to fold or remove the rear seats for more cargo capacity. With so many model choices on the market today, it can be difficult to figure out what type of SUV to buy. SUV’s are available in a wide range of sizes, prices, and engine power. To help narrow the field, here’s a guide to help you decide which type of SUV is best for you.SUV TYPES:
Compact
The compact SUV shares a similar platform to a sized car, but with a higher seating position and more cargo room. It’s well-suited for someone who is looking for a bit more room than a regular sedan can provide. They make for easy parking and are available in all-wheel-drive and offer both four- and six-cylinder engines. Typically the smaller SUV’s are less expensive and you can get better fuel economy than their midsize SUV counterparts. For a more upscale touch, you can get a small luxury SUV with better handling, quieter cabins, and more amenities. But that means a higher price and not-necessarily the best fuel economy.
Midsize
Midsize models provide the best balance of interior space, fuel economy, and safety. Weather you’re going on a family road trip, taking the kids to soccer practice, or transporting your stuff, a midsize SUV will get the job done. They’re easier to drive than a full-size SUV, and are the perfect SUV for families. Many midsize SUV’s come with third-row seating, providing the extra room for baby accessories and sports activities. They typically come standard with six-cylinder engines, but can have four- or eight-cylinder power plans as well. And there are far more choices with midsize SUV’s than a full-size or minivan.
Full Size
If you’re looking for lots of room, comfort, and enough power to haul heavy loads then the full-size SUV is what you need. It might make things more difficult if you live in a city with limited parking space, but it’s perfect to fit a family comfortably, with room for up to seven to nine passengers. But with larger sizes and larger engines, that means the cost to buy, maintain, and insure will be more expensive. You won’t be getting the best gas mileage, but it’s an outstanding utility vehicle and is perfect for hauling a family, along with everything else.
